Legio Victrix and new skins from spectre716
Newly added today is another badge, banner and .teamcolour set (also called an "army scheme") from Sgt.Roadkill for a custom chapter with a Roman feel: The Legio Victrix.
Also added are three new skins from spectre716, one of which has been released for a while elsewhere but has only just made it to Skins@HWT. First up is a Mortificators/White-Panthers style skin that can also be used for 'standard' schemes. The War Skinner skin changes the standard Space Marine and Dark Crusade Force Commander, and comes with a comic book-style cover. Finally, the modified Cleaned Space Marines was released a while ago on another site, but has now also been mirrored here.
Salamander Chaplain removed
Adonis, one of the Moderators at Relic News Forums, a senior admin at Hangar-8's forums and general "eye for the stolen" on DoWFiles.com, has found another person taking credit for someone else's work.
The download in question was the new Salamanders Chaplain skin that was added on Saturday. The skin took Hangar-8's Golden Eagles Chaplain and briefly re-tinted some areas. The skin was then released without Hangar-8's permission and with no credit. The author even asked that anyone re-using his skin asked his permission first.
As with many places on the Internet, we at Skins@HWT take a dim view on the theft of work, and as such have removed the download.
Twenty Guard badges and a Salamander skin
Newly approved today are two downloads - one a texture, one a set of badges.
Firstly, Darthsmily has submitted his first skin in the form of a Salamanders Chaplain. The texture hard-codes a lot of the colours, re-colours some areas, but leaves the bolt pistol team colourable.
Sgt.Roadkill has also released a new set of badges. This time it's a large pack of twenty generic Imperial Guard badges to replace the standard numbers that Cadian-like regiments use.
Texture Tool v1.8 released
It may only have been a few hours since the release of v1.7.5, but having looked at some textures that have been sent in for hosting it appears that some people end up with bloated WTP files because the Texture Tool included all relevant TGA files, whether they were useful or not.
Until now the Texture Tool had never checked the content of the file to see if it was a blank texture layer that the texturer had just not deleted. The new Dawn of War Texture Tool v1.8 now checks the data as it reads it in. Any file with no pixel higher than 2% brightness (i.e. any file where all colouring has been removed, but the file has not been deleted) will now be skipped, potentially reducing file sizes.
This still isn't a perfect solution, as some texturers may just paint the areas of the _dirt image white and negate all of the team colouring of a layer that way, but it's the beginnings of compiled texture optimisation.
Fifth revision of Texture Tool released
I have now released the Dawn of War Texture Tool, version 1.7.5.
The latest version fixes a bug that stops the tool compiling WTP files when the _default.tga contains an image ID (although all other layers remain unaffected). It also improves cross-platform compatibility, and is the first version that has been successfully tested with the Mono project's implementation of the .Net Framework under Linux. It should also run under Windows and Mac OS X.
Download counter fixed
A quick fifteen minute investigation this morning and the download counter is now fixed. Apologies to everyone who has downloads on the site and hasn't had their counters incremented over the past few days.
Download counter not working
Apologies to people who have downloads online, but I've just noticed that the download counter is not working. I'll try to fix it within the next 24 hours, but in the mean time files may have more downloads than are listed.
Environment-matching Imperial Guard camo
vol_907 has released an addition for the DoWXP mod - Imperial Guard camouflage that matches the current environment!
The Environmental camo works within the campaign through a bit of simple scripting, but makes the Guardsmen look much more in-keeping with their surroundings. The mod should also be included in the forthcoming Dawn of War: Firestorm mod.
Flesh Eaters vehicles now available
It took a day or two, but after Fleshp0int submitted the vehicles to complete his Flesh Eaters set they just had to be added.
Fleshp0int has now released a Flesh Eaters Vehicles pack, as well as an additional Flesh Eaters Vehicles pack for the Space Marine Armoury mod.
For those who don't know, the Space Marine Armoury is an additional mod from Compiler that adds additional table top vehicles to the Space Marines in Dawn of War, such as the Razorback, Vindicator and a new assault Rhino.
Thanks to Fleshp0int for his textures, and Compiler for his great mod.
New format Downloads URLs complete
Some additional functionality from yesterday's new format URLs has now been made more accessible. As well as 'quick links' for common areas of the downloads section such as "highest rated" and "most downloaded", there are now links for the full version list of a file and a perma-link to the latest version.
As well as this, a few other minor issues have also been cleared up, including some downloads that were missing file extensions and some pages that were displaying incorrectly.
Updates of the old numeric links will occur as time allows.
Although numeric links will still work, the new format URLs are now the preferred format.
