Large screenshot update

It took a while for me to get round to it (at least two weeks in some cases) but I've finally had a chance to update many of the skin/texture downloads and add screenshots.

Some downloads (such as a couple of applications and some of the .teamcolour downloads) are still missing their screenshots, but they'll be added soon. Forty images taken, cropped, resized and thumbnailed is enough for one night!

Dark Crusade Force Commander emerges without gold!

It was only a matter of time before someone removed the crazy amount of gold bling that the new Force Commander had gained in Dark Crusade, and Mattastic has done just that - a fully team colourable Force Commander.

Screenshots have yet to be taken, but the change list sounds very promising and I'm sure it'll be an improvement on the overly-gold commander that came in Dark Crusade.

New FAQ section and questions for Dark Crusade

Following a comment on one of the downloads from a visitor, I have now updated the FAQ section with two questions about texture usage in Dark Crusade in the Using Skins FAQ as well as creating a new Dark Crusade FAQ section.

More questions and answers will be added as people suggest them or as I think of them.

New skins and screenshots

Okay, so the new screenshots aren't for the new skins, but there's a little of both.

Despite having taken a back-seat from the modding community, Havoc has released an Alternate Tau Commander skin and a full pack of team colourable Necron buildings.

Also added this evening (but slightly delayed from their original posting on the Relic News Forums) are HorusHeretic's Cleaned Defiler and Trimmed Grey Knights.

I've also added some screenshots for some of the recent downloads, although the list of downloads needing screenshots is still quite large.

Thanks to both for their contributions, and I'll be getting screenshots up for all of the downloads eventually!

Black Templars and foul xenos witch scum!

Having disappeared for a long time, the release of Dark Crusade has seen the return of MadMaffMan to skinning. To complement his original Black Templars Neophytes and Initiates, MadMaffMan has now released a Black Templars Rhino.

Also released is a new set of Eldar team colours from the new Eldar Codex. (The Eldar are considered xenos witches by the Black Templars, in case you wondered about the title!) The new set contains four new Craftworlds, plus a re-work of Il-Kaithe to match the colour scheme found in Codex: Eldar.

Thanks to both for their submissions, and if you want to know what MadMaffMan is planning next then check out the Dawn of War Skinning forum.

Two of Havoc's skins released to the public

Recently Havoc, a skinner and modder at Relic Forums with skins hosted here, has announced he's leaving the community due to personal reasons.

Previously, Havoc had created some skins on request for Crystalking52. Havoc then gave his permission for the skins to be released to the wider community.

So, without further ado, the Warp Spider Exarch with colourable Death Spinners and Fire Prism with Teamcolourable Prism skins are now available. Both add minor changes, but changes that add the finishing touches to the skins.

Texture Tool v1.5.1 - Bug fix

Apologies to anyone using the Dawn of War Texture Tool v1.5, but a bug has been found when using badges/banners in WTP files.

This bug (which causes the badge/banner to always be in the bottom-left corner of the texture) has now been fixed in the Dawn of War Texture Tool v1.5.1. All functionality other than badges/banners remains unchanged.

The latest version of the Texture Tool will always be available at skins.hiveworldterra.co.uk/TextureTool/.

Five new textures - four for the new races!

Newly added today (some of which have been waiting for a couple of days - so sorry for the delay) are five new skins including two skins for the Tau and two for the Necrons.

Evil-Termite has released a full pack of Necrons with badges and banners, which even includes a banner image on the Obelisk/listening post. HorusHeretic has also released a large team colourable Necrons pack, this time including Necrons in the style of his table top army plus a set of team colourable buildings.

Both Hangar-8 and Croaxleigh have released new textures for the Kroot, both making the skin non-teamcolourable. Hangar-8's pack is a full set of non-team colourable Kroot including all units from the Kroot species, while Croaxleigh released a non-team colourable Kroot Warrior texture on Relic Forums a few days earlier.

As well as new skins for new races, HorusHeretic has updated his Team Colourable Daemon Prince to correct some issues with the Dark Crusade Daemon Prince that's now available as a unit in mutliplayer skirmishes.

Thanks to all of the contributors for their files, and hopefully I should have screenshots available soon.

Texture Tool v1.5 update

Apologies to the five people who managed to download it last night, but I discovered a bug in the Texture Tool that stopped it compiling WTPs to TGAs. I pulled the file down overnight until I could fix it, and the download page is now back with Texture Tool v1.5 release 2.

Three new tools for Dawn of War

With the release of Dark Crusade in the UK I've been encouraged to put more effort in to making the time to work on the game.

Following on from the UberPainter for Dark Crusade that was released almost a week ago, I've now released updated versions of the Dawn of War Texture Tool and Dawn of War Pattern Switcher. I've also released a new tool I've been working on; the IChunky Viewer.

The latest Pattern Switcher and Texture Tool should be useful for everyone, or all skinners at least, while the IChunky Viewer is a more specialised tool. No doubt new versions of the tools will be released in due course, especially for the IChunky Viewer, which is only semi-intelligent and requires contributions to discover what all of the data in all of the file chunks means!
