Conscript Guardsman texture
Newly released, and made on request, is a 'Conscript' Guardsman texture. The texture, requested by Sunray, was originally intended as a new skin for the Conscripts in the Dawn of Warhammer 40,000 Mod. The final texture is a modified skin that can be used with the Winter Assault Guardsmen for a different look, but also comes with outlined instructions on how to use it with the Dawn of Warhammer 40,000 Conscripts.
New banners and army schemes
Three new submissions have been added over the course of today. Firstly were the Blood Reavers Space Marines army scheme and the Crimson Guard banner, both from Briarus, followed by an update to the Coloured 412th Cadian banner from Reaper_3_Delta.
Thanks to both of these authors for their submissions, both continued and updated.
On a slightly less positive note, I have had to 'null' yet another vote of a user who has not read the site and has submitted a poor rating stating "how do I install this mod?". Readme files are included for a reason, and if not then there's always the FAQs. Also, we're still waiting for contact from Black Fang regarding the Revilers banner he submitted.
'Making team colourable areas non-teamcolourable' tutorial
Work began on the tutorial last night, but it was completed and uploaded this morning. The Making teamcolourable areas non-teamcolourable tutorial takes you through the steps of hard-coding the colour for an area of a texture. The tutorial itself works with the Kasrkin texture to fix the colour of their goggles, but applies equally well to any texture.
Updated 'White Cadia badge Guardsmen'
Following an addition to the original request, I've now added the Kasrkin to the original White Cadia badge Guardsmen texture. Although the Kasrkin never used to have a Cadia badge, the new White Cadia badge Guardsmen v1.1 adds a badge to their right shoulder pad, identical to the one on the Guardsmen.
Good news for Modders and Skinners
The Relic News Forums have recently acquired a new official member - Buggo, the Relic Community Manager. As part of the 'new Relic employee' process, Dorkdav interviewed her before leaving the interview thread open for further questions.
Not being one to miss an opportunity, and recognising the possibilities of Community Managers, I asked about the possibility of Relic more prominantly promoting (or actually promoting at all) the fact that the game was moddable and skinnable. Buggo's answer?
IBBoard, yes we are definitely going to be putting more effort into modding and skinning. It's something that the company definitely wants to put more support into, but will take some time. I definitely welcome any suggestions you might want to pass on into how we can better serve this community.
So it looks like Relic will be more actively promoting the fact that Dawn of War is a moddable game. Not only will this benefit all of the mod teams and skin sites, but it'll hopefully also breath new life in to Dawn of War and extend its playability for a long time to come!
Red Templars and Iron Hands arrive
Mr Moose has now replied, and his Red Templars badge and banner set and his Iron Hands banner are now available!
Thanks to Mr Moose for the submissions, and hopefully he'll find more badges or banners that he thinks should have been included.
Second Texture Tool update
Apologies to everyone who has downloaded it, but Lost2Insanity has just recently contacted me regarding a bug in the Texture Tool v1.4 release 1, before finding a new bug in v1.4 release 2. The bug has now been fixed and the Texture Tool download page will now give you the latest version of the tool (release 3). Hopefully that's all of the bugs fixed!
Download re-shuffle
I've just made a brief re-shuffle of some of the downloads. All of the tools (such as the Command-line SGA Extractor and Texture Tool) and any other Mod-related items have now been moved to the Skinning and Modding Resources section. Some other files may also be moved to more appropriate categories as and when I find them. This doesn't mean that files will be removed, just that they'll be available under a different category.
Two badge sets and a Mod skin
Three new downloads have just been added, and the author of two pending downloads has also been contacted to try to make them distributable.
Firstly, the skin. Dakka!Dakka! has released a Space Marine Veterans skin for the Space Marine Veterans of the Closer to Codex mod.
Dakka!Dakka! has also released a collection of Imperial Guard badges of varying numbers in both black and white. The font appears slightly different to the one used in default Winter Assault badges, but looks great and fits well.
The other badge download is part of a full Army Scheme (badge, banner and teamcolour) - the Blood Sword Space Marines from Briarus. The Blood Swords are a more recent chapter, but they are fully official and featured in the book "How to paint Space Marines".
Finally, the pending downloads. All three downloads that are pending at the moment require communication with the author. Black Fang's Reviler's banner is still pending as Black Fang did not include a contact address and has not responded to the news post yet. Mr Moose's two downloads are also pending, but he provided a contact email address in the readmes, and so hopefully the Iron Hands and Red Templars should be available soon!
Thanks to everyone who has contributed files, and to those who continue to contribute more files.
Texture Tool update
v1.4 of the Dawn of War Texture Tool has now been updated to 'Release 2' after Grimnar and Hangar-8 found a bug. The bug caused a crash when users tried to access the Options menu and no badge/banner was set. Since no badge or banner is set by default on first installation, the app was re-released rather than released as an updated version.
Apologies to anyone having problems with the buggy v1.4. Anyone who had used v1.3 and before and had set a badge or banner shouldn't have problems. Those who hadn't set badges or banners in the options, or who were using v1.4 for the first time, should re-download the tool.
