Alpha Legion Update
Dakka!Dakka! has very quickly returned with some updated Alpha Legion sets. The Alpha Legion v1.1 army scheme is now available. There is also a v1.2 scheme that is still pending on Dakka!Dakka! contacting the site, but hopefully it will be released soon.
Three new 'Army Schemes'
Newly approved are three of what we call 'army schemes' - a pack containing more than just a badge, banner or teamcolour file.
Firstly, Briarus has contributed yet another army scheme pack in the form of an updated Renegades pack. Now including two extra renegade chapters, and lots more badges and banners, this pack is certainly worth a look for those not wanting the normal Chaos legions.
We've also received some contributions from a new member called Dakka!Dakka!. Despite his name, the contributions are both for the Space Marines! The first, the Pre-Heresy Alpha Legion, is our second Pre-Heresy set for the once-loyal legion. The second, the Dark Hands Space Marines, are known from the Insignium Astartes background book. Both are promising downloads, and hopefully Dakka!Dakka! will be able to make updated versions with banners to really complete the sets.
Thanks to both authors for submitting their work, and I hope we'll see more contributions soon.
Three more quick textures
The last of my current flurry of 'by request' textures are now available, one each for the Eldar, Space Marines and Orks.
The Ork Looted Leman Russ texture is a minor update to make the white skull glyph team colourable. The Space Marines get a new pre-1.4 style skin that keeps the eyes team colourable while also making the barrel, nozzle and canister of the flamer colourable. Finally, the Eldar Grav Platform with colourable crystals makes the crystals on the end of the Bright Lance team colourable, just like they are on the Wraithlord.
Once again, these minor modifications to the skins were done on request, but hopefully other people will like them. A good number of people have already downloaded yesterday's new releases!
Two more quick skins
Supplying the demand for a couple of other requests, I've now released to more skins that were requested on Relic Forums.
Both skins are for the Imperial Guard, with the Assassin skin being a minor modification to Havoc's original team colourable assassin. The White Badged Guardsmen is a minor clarification of the original skin that makes the Cadia badge look more like a skull and less like a blob, while also fixing it as white.
Although both skins were done on request as quick one-offs, I hope other people like them too.
Three quick new skins
Following a raft of recent suggestions in the Relic Forums Texture Replacement and Request Thread, and with my university degree finally over, I've taken a few of the requests up and made a few new skins with minor changes.
Created and uploaded so far are the Coloured Wire Wraithlord, Modified Team Colourable Berserkers and the Chaos Lord with colourable skull. Check out the download pages for more details of what each request entailed.
World War Two inspired camouflage
After releasing the Digital Camo for Guardsmen, Soliel-Rouge has now gone all the way and made a complete Camouflaged Tanks and Troops based on World War Two camouflage.
The quality of the camo is great, and it's good to see someone making an entire themed pack, so thanks to Soleil-Rouge for all of the time he spent on it.
Pre-Heresy army schemes
Briarus has just released two new pre-Horus Heresy army schemes (containing all you need: badges, banners and teamcolours). The two packs are designed to represent loyalist Alpha Legion and Word Bearer Space Marines.
Thanks to Briarus for his fourth and fifth in a continuing flow of contributions.
Hotlinking of thumbnails banned
Although I'd previously allowed people to 'hotlink' thumbnails (that is linking to an image from another page not on this site) so that people can use it as an illustration to link to the actual download, I have now had to prohibit hotlinks on all images. This is due in part to a user called Phantron on the Oxegen forums who has used a thumbnail as an avatar and caused it to be displayed over 1,500 times in the first five days of June alone! Triskel of the GW Italy forums has also been hotlinking images and clocked up 10,000 blocked views in May, while Dawn of War Pro were hotlinking my Relic logo (which has since been moved from its unprotected location).
Using images of other people's work as an avatar/signature images/site images without asking permission or crediting it is bad enough, but to do it on my bandwidth is just plain theft.
Golden Eagles 1.6 Force Commander and Banner
As a sneak peak of the v1.6 Golden Eagles set, Hangar-8 has released a v1.6 patch for the Force Commander and Banner textures.
The Golden Eagles are a popular texture set that make the Imperial Eagles on the Space Marines a fixed gold colour and also adds lots of detail that is lost in the existing textures. Thanks to Hangar-8 for continuing to update these great textures and for contributing his work to the community.
Skins@HWT's one hundred thousandth visitor!
At just before midday GMT today the Skins @ Hive World Terra website received its one hundred thousandth member since the installation of the hit counter on the 28th June 2005. Due to complexities in the way AOL works, any of their dialup customers have been excluded from the count and so the number is actually much higher, but it's good to know that the site is popular and will have received over 100,000 visitors within its first year!
