New Chaos icon set

mdcertainty has been busy with another set of HUD icons, this time for Chaos.

The Chaos icon set contains a full set of icons of the in-game models using the Iron Warriors colour scheme and some custom textures. If you're getting bored of the existing icons then they're a good replacement to spruce up your interface.

mdcertainty also has an Eldar icon set in the works, so keep an eye out for more icons coming soon.

Dawn of War Pattern Switcher v3 released

As promised, the Dawn of War Pattern Switcher has now reached Version 3.0.

Following quite a major rewrite with the release of Dark Crusade, version three pre-empts the release of Soulstorm with a more configurable and responsive application.

If you've got previous versions of the Pattern Switcher then now is the time to update. If you've never heard of it before then read on...

Coming soon - Pattern Switcher v3

Following the release of information on a third expansion pack for Dawn of War I started updating the Pattern Switcher.

Rather than wait for the release of the new game and hard-coding more values, the Pattern Switcher now works from configuration files. The plan is that the new Pattern Switcher should be compatible with Dawn of War: Soulstorm with no code changes, only configuration updates.

As an added bonus, the update also improves some of the workings and makes the tool compatible with mods that use SGA archives for their textures.

New icon set and Guardsman texture

Two new downloads have now been added to the site - one a texture and one a set of icons.

Iron_Father's Imperial Guard with no Cadia markins texture cleans up the Guardsmen and Heavy Weapons to make them more generic. The Heavy Weapons Team have already had similar treatment previously but this covers all normal Guardsmen.

mdcertainty has contributed a second set of HUD icons, this time a set of Ultramarine icons for the Space Marine interface. The download actually contains two versions - one with and one without borders - that replace the icons with pictures of in-game models.

Thanks to Iron_Father for his first submission and mdcertainty for continuing his work on improving the icons.

Dawn of War to get third expansion pack

According to the THQ Investor Relations news article then Dawn of War will be getting a third expansion pack featuring two new races in Spring 2008.

One race is known to be the Dark Eldar, and screenshots have already been released. The other race is currently unknown.

As per usual, all existing races will also be getting new units, and fliers are apparently now going to be a possibility.

As with the release of the other expansion packs, Skins@HWT will provide hosting for new skins, badges, banners and other related content for the new races and the new units. So get planning your ideas now - the battle is now spreading to the star system!

More bloodied Chaos and a full set of Orks

Newly added today are two new textures and a full texture set.

Thunderrat has added the Bloody Chaos Horrors and the Bloody Khorne Berserkers, which add blood to the normal textures.

BobaHat has added the full set of his fluffy Orks, which makes the eyes red, the checks team colourable and changes several other areas. The set even includes updated building and structure textures!

Thanks to both for their submissions, and hopefully people will enjoy the updates.

Pending files

Having returned from my holiday, I found five new submissions in the pending queue. Two have now been approved (with an announcement to follow shortly) but three have been declined or are still pending.

Firstly, I would like to remind everyone that they should ensure they comply with the guidelines in the Submitting your work article to ensure that there are no unnecessary slowdowns in approving your work.

Secondly, the submission form is for submitting files. It is not for submitting images or other content. If you have submitted a file then please host the images on a site such as ImageShack and point us to them.

Finally, if you do not include your email address in a readme then not only are you failing to comply with the guidelines, but you leave me with no way to contact you to tell you that you're not complying with the guidelines. That's what causes the current situation - files left pending because of an issue that I cannot contact the author about.

Frost Slayers scheme declined

Over a month ago, Iceman5549 submitted his own "Frost Slayers" scheme to the site. Due to a minor issue with the submission, he was contacted on the supplied email address but the email address was invalid. It was then announced that download was being left in the pending queue awaiting contact from the author.

We have still not received any contact from Iceman5549. As such the download has been declined.

Apologies to anyone who was watching the pending downloads list and waiting for this download to be approved. It is very rare that we have to decline downloads due to a lack of author contact but when there is an issue and we cannot resolve it then we are left with no choice.

Advanced warning of temporary closure

Just in case anyone has been planning to complete and submit any files, please do it soon.

As of Thursday 13th September we will not be approving new submissions, although you will still be able to submit files in the normal ways.

Submission approval should restart on or after Sunday 23rd September.

Apologies for any delays this may cause, but I'll be getting married and then be on honeymoon so the sites are taking a back seat.

Downloads section fixed

Apologies to anyone who tried to access the downloads section of the site in the last twenty four hours. Last night I made some changes to the code that powers the downloads and thought I had fixed all of the issues. It turns out I had missed some.

The downloads section should now be fully functional and back to normal operations.
