New Perma-gold Librarian

Another one of the pending downloads has now been cleared out of the list with the release of the Perma-gold Librarian from Reaper_3_Delta, based on a combination of Isador and Hangar-8's Golden Eagle Librarian.

New army scheme and updated submission rules

Following quite a long delay due to real-life commitments I have finally got round to performing some updates and approving submissions.

Newly added today is the Khorne Worshipper's army scheme, which contains a badge, banner and .teamcolour with a Khornate/Bloodthirster scheme. Three other downloads were also pending, but all require contact from the author (none of whom included contact information).

As well as the new additions, the submission rules are now being tightened up. From now on, all submissions must include a readme file containing a minimum of the creator's name, contact details (email address and, optionally, websites) and a brief title and description of what the download is.

This new submission rule will help not only the submissions process, but also any user who downloads a file for later and then can't remember what the description was and where they got it from.

Death Marines and team colourable Avatars

Following a slight delay due to the Easter weekend break, I've now added two new downloads: the Death Marines teamcolour and an alternate team colourable avatar. One download has also been declined for not complying with our submission guidelines (due to re-use of copyrighted material not owned by Games Workshop within a Dawn of War badge and banner set) and one download is awaiting contact from the author.

The Death Marines is a .teamcolour file from woody that uses a red and yellow colour scheme to match his table-top army.

The Alternate team colourable Avatar from Slayer can be used as an alternative for Soliel_Rouge's Team Colourable Avatar. Slayer's submission is more extensively team colourable than Soleil_Rouge's texture, but still keeps the colouring of the skin as a hint of colour.

War Skinner Issue 02 now available

spectre716 has now released issue two of his War Skinner texture series.

For those who didn't see the original, War Skinner is a normal set of textures with a comic book-style cover picture in place of standard screenshots. Issue 02 adds additional textures (Terminators, Scouts and the Servitor) and updates the Force Commander.

Texture Tool 1.8.1 - Minor fix

The Texture Tool v1.8.1 for Dawn of War has now been released. The latest version includes a minor fix to return the "click any TGA in the set and the WTP will be correctly compiled" functionality. Seemingly, v1.8 lost the functionality and forced you to select the _default.tga file, which makes mass-compilation of WTPs a bit more time consuming.

The latest version of the Dawn of War Texture Tool is always available at skins.hiveworldterra.co.uk/Downloads/detail_DawnOfWarTextureTool.html.

Red Crosses Space Marines set

A new badge and banner maker, Slayer, has recently added his Red Crosses Space Marine badge and banner set to the site. The set isn't based on a codex scheme, or on the "Red Cross" aid/charity organisation, but does contain a red cross.

Legio Victrix and new skins from spectre716

Newly added today is another badge, banner and .teamcolour set (also called an "army scheme") from Sgt.Roadkill for a custom chapter with a Roman feel: The Legio Victrix.

Also added are three new skins from spectre716, one of which has been released for a while elsewhere but has only just made it to Skins@HWT. First up is a Mortificators/White-Panthers style skin that can also be used for 'standard' schemes. The War Skinner skin changes the standard Space Marine and Dark Crusade Force Commander, and comes with a comic book-style cover. Finally, the modified Cleaned Space Marines was released a while ago on another site, but has now also been mirrored here.

Salamander Chaplain removed

Adonis, one of the Moderators at Relic News Forums, a senior admin at Hangar-8's forums and general "eye for the stolen" on DoWFiles.com, has found another person taking credit for someone else's work.

The download in question was the new Salamanders Chaplain skin that was added on Saturday. The skin took Hangar-8's Golden Eagles Chaplain and briefly re-tinted some areas. The skin was then released without Hangar-8's permission and with no credit. The author even asked that anyone re-using his skin asked his permission first.

As with many places on the Internet, we at Skins@HWT take a dim view on the theft of work, and as such have removed the download.

Twenty Guard badges and a Salamander skin

Newly approved today are two downloads - one a texture, one a set of badges.

Firstly, Darthsmily has submitted his first skin in the form of a Salamanders Chaplain. The texture hard-codes a lot of the colours, re-colours some areas, but leaves the bolt pistol team colourable.

Sgt.Roadkill has also released a new set of badges. This time it's a large pack of twenty generic Imperial Guard badges to replace the standard numbers that Cadian-like regiments use.

Texture Tool v1.8 released

It may only have been a few hours since the release of v1.7.5, but having looked at some textures that have been sent in for hosting it appears that some people end up with bloated WTP files because the Texture Tool included all relevant TGA files, whether they were useful or not.

Until now the Texture Tool had never checked the content of the file to see if it was a blank texture layer that the texturer had just not deleted. The new Dawn of War Texture Tool v1.8 now checks the data as it reads it in. Any file with no pixel higher than 2% brightness (i.e. any file where all colouring has been removed, but the file has not been deleted) will now be skipped, potentially reducing file sizes.

This still isn't a perfect solution, as some texturers may just paint the areas of the _dirt image white and negate all of the team colouring of a layer that way, but it's the beginnings of compiled texture optimisation.
